Kangana Ranaut, a Two-time Defaulter: Himachal's Power Board Clarifies

The Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board (HPSEB) has addressed the ongoing conversations regarding the electricity bill at BJP MP and actress Kangana Ranaut's Manali residence. Managing Director Sandeep Kumar explained to Aajtak that Kangana has been a two-time defaulter for not paying her electricity bills on time while regularly availing of the government’s electricity subsidy.

HPSEB stated that a domestic electricity connection, under customer number 10000083**, is registered for Kangana's residence in Simsa village, under Manali's power sub-division. The electricity bill for ₹90,384 is for two months of consumption in January and February, which was paid with a delay fee on March 28. The bill issued on March 22 included an outstanding payment of ₹32,287, indicative of unpaid previous bills, therefore, the total bill issued in March was ₹90,384 including pending payments.

The Connected Load is 1500% Higher Than Normal

Sandeep Kumar, the MD of the Himachal Pradesh Power Board, detailed to Aajtak that Kangana Ranaut’s residence has a connected load of 94.82kW, far exceeding a normal household by 1500%. The electricity bills from October to December were not paid on time, with similar delays occurring for January and February bills as well.

January-February Bills Cleared on March 28

December energy consumption reached 6,000 units, with ₹31,367 pending. February saw a usage of 9,000 units. Due to untimely payments, the delayed payment with surcharge totaled ₹58,096. The power bill for October, November, and December 2024, amounting to ₹82,061, was settled by Kangana on January 16, 2025. She continually delays her monthly electricity bill payments. The payments for January and February bills were finally made on March 28, 2025, after consumption of a substantial 14,000 units, incurring a fine.

Kangana Benefiting from Governmental Electricity Subsidy

Sandeep Kumar mentioned that Kangana's monthly electricity use averages between 5,000 and 9,000 units, significantly high. Kangana continues to benefit from the government's electricity subsidy, receiving ₹700 subsidy on February's bill, contrary to many who have voluntarily opted out of the subsidy.

Kangana Claimed an Exorbitant ₹1 Lakh Electricity Bill

Recently, during a public gathering in Mandi, Kangana claimed she was billed ₹1 lakh for a house she doesn’t even reside in, pointing fingers openly at the state government for allegedly raising bus fares and simosa prices, dubbing them as wolves, further urging protection for the state from these clutches. Following her accusations, the power board clarified the facts, indicating the bill encompassed two months of consumption, and highlighted her delayed payments.
