Flipkart, known for hosting sales and attracting customers with various offers and discounts, faced a setback after cancelling a customer's iPhone purchase. Consequently, this led to a penalty of ₹10,000. Let's look into the details of the case.

The Consumer Dispute Resolution Commission found Flipkart guilty of unfair trade practices and ordered the platform to compensate the aggrieved customer for the mental anguish caused by the cancellation of the iPhone order.

In fact, a Mumbai resident filed a complaint stating that he ordered an iPhone on July 10, 2022, through Flipkart’s website. After paying ₹39,628 using a credit card, he was informed via SMS that his order was canceled six days later, despite the scheduled delivery date of July 12.

The District Consumer Dispute Resolution Commission found that the order was canceled solely to generate additional profit, citing deficiencies in service and unfair business practice. The commission issued the order last month, with details released the following Sunday.

Although the customer received a refund, the commission deemed it fair to award compensation for the psychological distress experienced due to the unilateral cancellation of the order.
