In a historic move, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced during a rally in Udhampur, Jammu & Kashmir, that the region's full state status will be reinstated and assembly elections will be held shortly. This proclamation comes as major political parties have been demanding elections since the abrogation of Article 370.
During the Friday rally, Modi reminisced, 'I frequently visited Udhampur and Jammu & Kashmir. I fondly remember the reception held in Udhampur during the 1992 Ekta rally where our goal was to hoist the tricolor at Lal Chowk.'
Modi added, 'In 2014, I paid my respects at the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine. I addressed a rally at this very venue in Udhampur. I guaranteed alleviation of the people's hardships in Jammu & Kashmir. I have fulfilled that guarantee. For the first time, cross-border terrorism, stone pelting, and attacks are not election issues. This election is not just about choosing MPs. It's about forming a strong government at the center.'
Further, Prime Minister Modi stated, 'It was on this ground, 10 years back, I asked you to trust me. I promised to resolve decade-old issues. I guaranteed protection of women's honor and respect. People will receive free ration for the next five years, Jammu & Kashmir residents are getting Ayushman medical insurance. Roads have been made in remote areas. Mobile connectivity has reached far-off places. A guarantee from Modi means a guarantee of fulfillment.'
