DUSU Election 2025: The race is on for the prestigious Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) election. With voting set for September 18 and results to follow on September 19, two prominent organizations have put forward female candidates for president, hinting at a potentially groundbreaking election.

If a female candidate emerges victorious this year for the DUSU presidency, it will mark a return to the days of Nupur Sharma's 2008 triumph for the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad—a tenure that has not been replicated by another woman since.

Female Aspirants from Leading Parties

This election sees two major organizations placing their faith in women for the presidency. The NSUI and AISA-SFI have nominated women, with AISA-SFI also backing a woman for the secretary position and ABVP supporting a female candidate for the joint secretary role.

NSUI's Rajasthan Candidate

NSUI has nominated Joselin Nandita Choudhary, hailing from Jodhpur, Rajasthan, as their presidential candidate. Currently pursuing post-graduation in Buddhist Studies, Joselin has been an active NSUI member since 2019, championing women's rights, campus safety, and related issues.

AISA-SFI's Bihar Candidate

Meanwhile, the All India Students' Association (AISA) and Students' Federation of India (SFI) are fielding Anjali from Indraprastha Women College for the presidency. Originally from Bihar, Anjali is a vocal advocate for women's safety and hostel issues, earning respect among students for her active participation in campus movements.

The AISA-SFI coalition has selected Abhinandana, from the indigenous community of the Northeast, as their candidate for secretary. This marks a significant first as an indigenous woman steps up for the DUSU election.

ABVP's Joint Secretary Nomination

Similarly, ABVP has endorsed a woman for the joint secretary role. Dipika Jha, rooted in Bihar and currently a student at Delhi University's Lakshmibai College, is the candidate. An active member of ABVP's Students for Service project, she has spearheaded social initiatives like Basti Ki Pathshala and Ritumat Abhiyan.

The Battle for DUSU Supremacy

The political landscape at Delhi University's campus is rapidly evolving, with organizations across the board leaning on female candidates for several critical roles, including the presidency. With formidable contenders from both parties, the outcome could see DU gaining a new female leader. The question remains: who will emerge victorious?
