Tensions between the U.S. and Denmark over Greenland have reached a peak, yet amid this, the U.S. is selling arms to Denmark. This scenario is peculiar—it's like selling a gun while saying you'll aim it at them yourself.
Trump’s Greenland Obsession
Since Donald Trump assumed presidency in January 2025, he has repeatedly stated that America should annex Greenland. He argues that Greenland is crucial for national security. Recently, Trump noted that Greenland is not only essential for America's safety but also for world security.

The Trump administration has heightened talks with Denmark. Secretary of State Marco Rubio himself met with Danish officials. The U.S. also proposed offering a significant sum to Greenland's populace to encourage them to separate from Denmark and join America.
Denmark and Greenland’s Opposition
Danish and Greenlandic leaders firmly oppose this U.S. pressure. Greenlandic leaders assert that they do not wish to become Americans, nor do they wish to remain with Denmark—they aspire for independence.

Why Is the U.S. Selling Arms to Denmark?
The strangest aspect here is that while threatening to annex Greenland, the U.S. is persistently selling arms to Denmark.
F-35 Stealth Fighter Jets: Denmark initially purchased 27 F-35s from the U.S. and has decided to buy an additional 16, totaling 43 jets. Denmark has stated that these jets can operate from Greenland's airports.
AIM-9X and AIM-120 Missiles: In December 2025, the U.S. authorized the sale of AIM-9X Sidewinder and AIM-120 AMRAAM-ER missiles to Denmark.
IBCS and NASAMS Systems: Denmark was provided with integrated battle command and missile systems to bolster air defense.
Hellfire Missiles: On January 8, 2026, the U.S. approved the sale of AGM-114R Hellfire air-to-surface missiles to Denmark, for about $45 million. These missiles can be mounted on the MQ-9B SeaGuardian drone or MH-60R Seahawk helicopter.
P-8A Poseidon: Denmark is approved for the sale of 3 P-8A Poseidon aircraft, meant to surveil the seas around Greenland.
The U.S. states these arms target the threat from Russia. However, these weapons could be used against America if Trump proceeds with Greenland hostilities.

What if Conflict Arises Between U.S. and Denmark?
Experts believe Denmark cannot directly confront the U.S. military, given its size and strength. Denmark's strategy might be... initial resistance, activating NATO, amplifying diplomatic pressure.
But should the U.S. attack, Denmark's F-35 fighters and Hellfire missiles could be deployed against American F-35s and drones. This situation is exceedingly bizarre and perilous.
