LG VK Saxena recently took a jibe at former Delhi Chief Minister Atishi concerning the growing Yamuna pollution. Sources revealed that Saxena remarked, 'You are cursed by Yamuna Maiya,' suggesting that active steps by the government could have averted the situation. During his encounter with Atishi, Saxena also touched upon the issue of air pollution, pointing out that the LG Secretariat had made several recommendations to tackle it.

Atishi Resigns as Chief Minister

Following the defeat of the Aam Aadmi Party in Delhi, Atishi tendered her resignation as Chief Minister. Earlier, in September 2024, party convenor Arvind Kejriwal had stepped down post his bail from jail. The party then appointed Atishi as the new Chief Minister. However, after the electoral defeat, Atishi submitted her resignation to LG VK Saxena on Sunday.

Despite her resignation, Atishi will continue as an interim Chief Minister until a new government is formed. Notably, Atishi remains part of a select few prominent AAP leaders who managed to retain their seat amidst the BJP wave in the election.

Declared Herself a Temporary CM

Upon becoming Delhi's CM, Atishi was overwhelmed with emotion. On the evening of September 21, 2024, she stated during her oath, 'While I have taken the oath as CM today, it's an emotional moment for all of us that Arvind Kejriwal isn't the CM.' Throughout her tenure, Atishi projected herself as a temporary CM, so much so that a chair remained reserved for Kejriwal in the CM's office. During elections, Kejriwal clarified that if AAP forms the government, he would take over as CM. Atishi consistently affirmed this message, ensuring clarity among the public.
