Before the Republic Day celebrations, Delhi Police tightened its grip on criminals with an extensive citywide operation. Targeting drug trafficking, organized crime, and other illegal activities, the special campaign led to the arrest of 59 drug traffickers.
According to Delhi Police, under Operation Kavach 12, a special 24-hour drive was conducted from 6 PM on January 23 to 6 PM on January 24. During this time, the city's 15 districts, along with the Crime Branch and Special Cell, deployed 1,059 police teams. Raids were conducted at 2,348 locations.
In the campaign against drugs, police seized 31.21 grams of heroin and 30.75 kilograms of marijuana. Fifty-five cases were registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. Police also took significant action against illegal liquor, registering 231 cases under the Delhi Excise Act.
During this period, 238 individuals were arrested. Seized items included 50,110 quarters of illegal liquor, 31 cartons of beer, 12 beer bottles, and 12 liquor bottles. Additionally, 1,682 people were arrested for drinking in public under sections 40A and 40B of the Excise Act.
In a crackdown on arms, police arrested 117 individuals in 115 cases under the Arms Act. Two pistols, 16 country-made weapons, 25 live cartridges, and 98 knives were recovered. The gambling crackdown led to 261 arrests across 149 cases, with $3.51 lakh seized.
Furthermore, 31 proclaimed offenders and 21 vehicle thieves were caught, while 33 stolen vehicles were recovered. In line with the Delhi Police Act, 2,276 vehicles were seized. As part of preventive measures, 703 were arrested, and 4,082 were detained to curb future crimes.
A total of 25,300 people were detained under the Delhi Police Act. Various preventive provisions of the Indian Civil Defense Code were also enforced. Investigations included the review of 4,545 listed criminals, and prosecutions were launched against 4,714 violators under the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act.
Several key revelations emerged during the operation. The Crime Branch busted and sealed an illegal manufacturing unit in the Bawana area producing counterfeit cosmetic and pharmaceutical product tubes. Machinery and a large amount of fake packaging material were confiscated.
In another action, a national-level shooter was arrested for his role in a money mule racket related to cyber fraud exceeding 40 million rupees. Separate operations in West Delhi led to the seizure of over 20 kilograms of marijuana, with multiple suspects detained.
