The Delhi assembly elections are underway, and the Model Code of Conduct is strictly implemented here. As a result, the Delhi Police have been continuously taking action against violators. During this period, the police have seized large quantities of alcohol, weapons, cash, and drugs. A total of 1092 cases have been registered against those not adhering to the code. So far, over one lakh liters of alcohol have been seized by the police.
The election dates for the Delhi assembly were announced on January 7. With this announcement, the code of conduct came into effect immediately. Consequently, the police and administration have been meticulously observing all activities and arresting the defaulters. During this period, substantial quantities of alcohol, cash, drugs, and weapons have been recovered by the police.
Strict Action Taken by Police
The Delhi Police are making every effort to ensure no disruptions occur during the elections. To this end, 475 unlicensed weapons and 534 cartridges were confiscated during inspections. Additionally, 1,14,211.87 liters of alcohol have been seized, resulting in the arrest of 1404 individuals. In terms of drugs, the police have captured substances valued at over 7.7 billion rupees and arrested 177 individuals involved. Furthermore, a total of 11,60,31,697 rupees in cash has also been confiscated during these operations.
The code of conduct, a set of guidelines issued by the Election Commission (EC), regulates the conduct of political parties and candidates during the election process.
