AAP Plays the Woman Card, Atishi Becomes Opposition Leader in Delhi

Previously, Atishi managed key responsibilities in education, finance, and energy for the Delhi government. When Arvind Kejriwal resigned as CM five months ago, he trusted Atishi. Last September, she took oath as CM and within just five months, she is ready to serve as the Leader of the Opposition.

In the Delhi Assembly, two women now stand opposed, representing the ruling and opposing parties alike. On one side, the Bharatiya Janata Party has appointed Rekha Gupta, MLA from Shalimar Bagh, as Chief Minister, while on Sunday, the Aam Aadmi Party endorsed former CM Atishi as the Leader of the Opposition during their legislative meeting. Following BJP's lead, AAP has now strategically promoted women leadership.

Atishi's Role Evolves in Five Months

Previously, Atishi handled crucial responsibilities in education, finance, and energy for the Delhi government. When Arvind Kejriwal stepped down from the CM's post five months ago, he placed his confidence in Atishi within the party. In September last year, she took the oath as Chief Minister, and in just five months, she rose to the role of the Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly.

As Chief Minister, Atishi's effective governance elevated her stature within the party. Notably, when key leaders like Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, and Saurabh Bhardwaj faced defeat in the Assembly elections, Atishi successfully defended her seat from Kalkaji.

Focus on Women's Empowerment

The BJP has consistently emphasized women's empowerment, advocating for their welfare during the Delhi Assembly elections. Each party pledged welfare schemes for women, with the BJP announcing the Women's Honour Scheme.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta convened a crucial meeting on Saturday regarding the upcoming budget. Key discussions with officials focused on the forthcoming budget and included talks about the Women's Honour Scheme, which proposes to provide ₹2500 per month to women.

By maintaining a strong focus on women's leadership and empowerment, Delhi's governance takes a progressive step forward.
