On Saturday, the Delhi Congress raised an official complaint with the Election Commission against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) regarding an 'offensive poster' that was circulated. This particular poster was shared on social media portraying Congress leaders negatively, including former Congress president Rahul Gandhi.
According to the complaint, AAP targeted Rahul Gandhi, along with AICC Treasurer Ajay Maken and Sandeep Dikshit, in the offensive material that was released by their official X handle (formerly Twitter).
What Are the Allegations?
The headline of the poster read, 'One Alone Outshines All,' featuring an image of Arvind Kejriwal with a caption about his 'honesty,' while contrasting it with Congress leaders labeled as 'all dishonest.'
Congress stated that this post breaches the model code of conduct and the provisions of the Representation of the People Act, 1951. They claimed that AAP wrongfully projected Kejriwal as honest while branding Congress leaders as dishonest, which they assert is utterly baseless and false.
Questions from Congress to AAP
The Congress accused AAP of deliberately propagating such material for electoral gain, tarnishing the image of senior Congress figures. They also referred to recent arrests of AAP leaders, questioning the party's claims of honesty.
Request to Remove the Post
The Congress appealed to the Election Commission to prohibit AAP from circulating such posts and to command the immediate removal of related content from their social media accounts. Notably, the Delhi Assembly elections are scheduled for February 5, with counting on February 8.
