TVS Jupiter 110 vs Honda Activa Comparison:

In the 80s and 90s, Bajaj Chetak emerged as a brand synonymous with 'scooter.' As time passed, the era of two-stroke engines ended, giving way to automatic scooters. Today, Honda Activa holds the same stature, becoming the definition of a scooter for the new generation. Sales reports indicate that it's hard to dethrone the Honda Activa. However, efforts continue unabated.

Recently, TVS Motor has launched the new Jupiter 110 in a completely new avatar. The company has made significant changes in the look, design, and features, making it superior to the previous model. This raises the question: which is the better option between the new Jupiter and Activa 6G? Let's perform a comparative study through graphics.

Price:

Firstly, let's talk about pricing. TVS Jupiter comes in four variants: Drum, Drum Alloy, Drum Smart Connect, and Disc Smart Connect, with prices ranging from ₹73,700 to ₹87,250. On the other hand, the Honda Activa 6G comes in three variants: Standard, Deluxe, and H-Smart, priced between ₹76,684 and ₹82,684 (ex-showroom).

Size Matters:

The new Jupiter 110 is based on the platform of its larger model, Jupiter 125, and this is quite evident from its size. When comparing the sizes of Jupiter and Activa, the new Jupiter is longer and taller than its competitor, the Activa 6G, with a wheelbase that's 15 mm longer. The seat is also longer at 756 mm compared to Activa's 692 mm, offering more space for both the rider and pillion. Despite being larger, the weight of the Jupiter hasn't increased; both scooters weigh around the same (105-106 kg).

Look and Design:

The TVS Jupiter has become sharper and more stylish than ever. It features a wide LED daytime running light at the front, and the side profile has been significantly modified. The rear part has been given a broad frame, making the scooter attractive from behind as well. Meanwhile, the Honda Activa retains its traditional design, with its last update in 2020.

Engine and Power:

The Jupiter 110 is equipped with a new 113cc engine, generating 8hp of power and 9.8Nm of torque, which is around 0.1hp more than before. This scooter is the first in the segment to come with 'iGO assist' micro-hybrid technology, featuring a more powerful battery that gets charged by the engine during deceleration and powers the ISG motor.

The Honda Activa is equipped with a 109cc engine, producing 7.7 bhp of power and 8.9 Nm of torque. It also has an H-Smart variant, offering remote functions. You can operate several features of the Activa remotely. Both scooters come with a continuous variable transmission (CVT) gearbox.

Jupiter Leads in Braking:

An interesting feature of the Jupiter is that its top variant offers a disc brake option for the front wheel. In contrast, all Activa variants have a drum-brake setup. However, both scooters' higher variants come with alloy wheels. The Activa also features a small rear wheel with a staggered wheel layout and broader rubber.

Features:

When it comes to features, both scooters offer quite similar ones. However, there are unique features in each. The top variant of the Jupiter includes an LED lightbar on the front apron, a digital instrument cluster, a fuel filler cap inside the front apron, an LCD instrument cluster, and TVS's SmartXonnect smartphone connectivity function. Notably, the top-spec Jupiter is the only model in its segment featuring an integrated starter generator with mild-hybrid technology.

For the Activa, the standout feature is the brand's H-Smart technology or, in simple terms, the remote key-based function available on the top variant. This system allows you to lock the scooter from a distance, flash its hazard lights (find my scooter), and open the fuel filler lid remotely. It also offers a keyless-go functionality, eliminating the need to take the key out of the rider’s pocket to start the scooter. The top variant of the Activa comes with an LED headlight and engine idle start-stop technology.

Segment-First Features of Jupiter:

TVS Motor boasts that the new Jupiter includes several segment-first features. This could be attractive to buyers of the Honda Activa. These features include double helmet space, a front fuel cap, a follow-me headlamp, infinity lamps, a longer seat, a metal body, turn signal lamps, find my vehicle, more leg space, and auto start/stop functions.
