The 'War Room' established at the SSP office in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, mobilized at least 100 police officers across 22 teams, reviewed over 1,500 CCTV footage, installed 600 new cameras, and examined data dumps from 150,000 mobile numbers. Spanning a radius of 25 km, an intensive investigation finally led to the capture of the 'serial killer' after a year. Over approximately 14 months, he had murdered nine middle-aged women.

Initially, the police arrested Kuldeep Gangwar for the murders of women in the Sheeshgarh and Shahi police station areas. He is a resident of Bakarganj village in the Nawabganj police station area. Kuldeep, aged 35, confessed to the police that he had killed six women. His father had remarried, and his stepmother used to mistreat him. Kuldeep's biological mother and two sisters had died.

Murder Radius: 20 to 25 Kilometers

In Bareilly's Shahi police station area, a string of murders had created a state of terror. Over the last 14 months, nine women had been killed. All murders followed a similar pattern, occurring within a radius of 20 to 25 kilometers.

Middle-aged women's bodies were discovered in fields, with their jewelry missing. In recent days, the police released sketches of three suspects and appealed for immediate information.

Murders had been happening in the Shahi, Sheeshganj, and Fatehganj police station areas of Bareilly since last July. There were significant similarities between the crimes. All murders occurred in the afternoon, targeting women aged 50-60 years. The killer used the women's saree pallus or scarves and tied a knot on the left side of their necks. Most murders took place in or near sugarcane fields, pointing towards the handiwork of a serial killer.
