In the wake of a brawl involving international students intruding into the NRI hostel of Gujarat University (GU), Ahmedabad, new regulations have been introduced. On Monday, the university unveiled a set of guidelines concerning room allocation for foreign students in the new NRI hostel. The guidelines strictly prohibit ragging, the use of intoxicating drugs, and alcohol consumption on campus. Among the 25 regulations, one specifies the need to avoid any private, religious, or external activities in public areas.
The directive also states that students found engaging in 'abusive, threatening language, physical altercations, or using force to carry out inappropriate actions' could face expulsion from the hostel or college. Other instructions touch on ragging, overnight stays, and the use of personal electrical appliances, which are mostly common across hostels in the university and other state institutions.
The 25-Point Guideline
1. Rigorous prohibition of ragging in any form, with strict action against violators. 2. Students are forbidden from consuming alcohol, drugs, or any other intoxicants within the hostel premises. 3. Visitors to the hostel, including parents/guardians, must register their entry in the visitor's book available with the security guard at the entrance. 4. Unauthorized possessions or guests may not be kept in student rooms. 5. No individual or guest is permitted to stay overnight in any part of the hostel. Permission must be sought from the warden if a guest wishes to stay overnight ... (continued list of guidelines for simplicity)... 25. Avoid any personal, religious, or external activities in public areas.
