In the recent Lok Sabha elections, the Congress was wiped out in Madhya Pradesh. BJP clenched victory in all 29 seats including Chhindwara. Post-defeat, the rift among Congress leaders became evident. Congress leader Ajay Singh Rahul, on Thursday, targeted senior leaders Kamalnath and Digvijaya Singh, as well as state president Jitu Patwari.
Former Leader of the Opposition Ajay Singh demanded a high-level review of state president Jitu Patwari's tenure. It's not just about the embarrassing loss the party faced but also the mass departure of leaders and workers from the party. The steps taken to prevent their exodus should also be discussed. He demanded an investigation into the reasons for the party's defeat in the elections.
Congress workers feel demoralized...
Ajay Singh, son of the late Arjun Singh, former Chief Minister and Union Minister, stated that the Congress workers are demoralized and disappointed, which bodes ill for the party's future. He further questioned why prominent leaders like Kamalnath and Digvijaya Singh did not venture beyond their home turf? Leadership should determine who campaigned during the elections.
Those who left should not be allowed to return
Ajay also criticized the departure of leaders like former Union Minister Suresh Pachouri and senior legislator Ramnivas Rawat from the party. He branded opportunistic and selfish leaders as having abandoned the party in times of crisis and argued they should never be accepted back irrespective of their stature.
The party has never suffered such a defeat before
Ajay Singh mentioned that he resigned as the Leader of the Opposition in 2013 following the party’s loss in the state. He emphasized the need for responsibility to be taken. He indirectly referred to Kamalnath’s frequent visits and decisions as detrimental to the party, saying, "A major leader's coming and going decisions also proved harmful."
