Sarla Aviation Air Taxi Testing:
In bustling cities like Delhi, Mumbai, or Bengaluru, traffic woes reflect the expanse of urban sprawl and exhausted roads. The question isn't just why traffic happens, but how to transcend it. Enter aerospace startup Sarla Aviation, gazing skyward for answers to urban congestion. Launching their pioneering air taxi program, ground testing has taken flight.
Flying was once the realm of airplanes and grand airports. But picture a near future where commuting by air becomes your daily norm, perhaps even for the office. Seamless integration with city life, initiated at Bengaluru's manufacturing facility, signifies a landmark achievement for both the company and India’s aerospace dreams. With a vision to launch electric air taxis by 2028 for local commutes, Sarla Aviation propels its concept rapidly toward reality.

The beginning of ground testing marks the shift of Sarla Aviation's air taxi program into the critical validation phase. This stage transcends digital concepts and lab-scale experiments, heading toward real aircraft-scale testing. It's here that engineering prowess and system maturity face their ultimate trials.
In just nine months, the company has made remarkable strides with relatively low investment compared to global aerospace programs, achieving a noteworthy milestone. This underscores a new chapter of engineering excellence, speed of execution, and system maturity unmatched by any private Indian aerospace endeavor to date.
The current testing phase features the functional sub-scale aircraft SYL-X1, designed for thorough evaluation of structural behavior, propulsion integration, and systems-level safety architecture. Not merely an academic prototype or a scaled-down RC model, it's crafted with certification in mind, setting the foundation for a future full-scale aircraft with a 15-meter wingspan.
Rakesh Gonkar, Co-founder and Chief Technical Officer of Sarla Aviation, proudly notes this success as a testament to what is possible when globally experienced Indian engineers work with discipline, patience, and world-class standards. "Our focus has never been on being the first, but on creating a sustainable and long-lasting system to establish a formidable aviation giant," he explained.

Meanwhile, Sarla Aviation unveiled a full-scale static aircraft for display on national platforms like India Mobility. Boosted by $13 million in funding, the company has reinforced its long-term execution capabilities, fueling the development momentum in years to come.
The flagship program from Sarla Aviation unveils a six-seater electric flying taxi, aimed at trimming commute times in crowded cities such as Bengaluru, Mumbai, Delhi, and Pune. Notably, in 2024, Bengaluru International Airport Limited partnered with Sarla Aviation to inaugurate electric flying taxis at Kempegowda International Airport.
A statement of collaboration focused on sustainable air mobility and particularly eVTOL aircraft was signed between both entities. With ground testing now underway, this aspiration takes one step closer to altering urban transportation across India.
