Shahrukh Pathan, accused in the Delhi riots, might soon find himself a candidate for the Delhi Assembly elections, courtesy of Asaduddin Owaisi’s party, AIMIM. The president of Delhi AIMIM, Shoaib Jamai, interacted with Shahrukh's family and expressed readiness to back him electorally if his family and the local populace support the decision.
Jamai declared, "As the state chief of AIMIM, it's our duty to reach out to families denied justice and check on their welfare."
He further elaborated, "During my visit to Shahrukh's mother, it became apparent that their pursuit of justice is mired in delays and inefficiencies. It’s concerning that there’s no proper hearing. Meanwhile, Gopal, who fired a gun in Jamia, has been granted bail, celebrated by BJP as a hero and political figure."
Plan to Grant a Ticket?
Addressing the query about offering Shahrukh Pathan a ticket for the assembly elections, Shoaib remarked, "Granting a ticket will be a decision made by the high command. However, consideration will depend on local party opinion and family consent. For now, nothing concrete about the ticket has been decided."
Through a social media post, Shoaib Jamai shared, "Recently, I visited Shahrukh Pathan’s home and met his mother. A delegation from AIMIM discussed their circumstances and legal aid possibilities. Our step towards justice campaigns in Delhi aims to inspire numerous families whose children remain incarcerated without trial for years."
He added, "According to the Supreme Court, bail is a right for those with pending cases. Shahrukh’s mother believes her son was charged at the behest of Arvind Kejriwal, a fact she says she won't forget."

Who is Shahrukh Pathan?
In 2020, during the CAA protests in North East Delhi, riots erupted. In the Maujpur region, Shahrukh Pathan fired shots from an automatic pistol at a crowd and then aimed it at a Delhi Police Head Constable. Subsequently, during the chaos, he managed to escape.
The crime branch later apprehended Shahrukh from Uttar Pradesh, and his shooting video went viral on social media.
On October 22, the Delhi High Court rejected his bail plea. This case is tied to FIR 51/2020 under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 147 (rioting), 148 (armed rioting), 149 (unlawful assembly), and 307 (attempt to murder). These charges highlight the severity of the accusations against Shahrukh stemming from the Jafrabad riots.
