Ahmedabad Airport often sees smuggling activities, but this time, just two days before Diwali, police apprehended four travelers bringing hybrid marijuana worth a hefty sum. Four individuals from Vietnam arrived at Ahmedabad Airport carrying hybrid marijuana valued at 21.1 million INR.
At the airport, all cannabis smugglers were successfully apprehended by the coordinated efforts of the Ahmedabad police and the CISF team. Acting upon the tip received, DCP Zone 4 Kanan Desai and his team, in collaboration with the CISF, conducted the operation seamlessly.
Main Culprit Sought
Initial police investigations reveal that a young woman from Pethapur, Gandhinagar, named Manisha Kharadi, was executing this task on behalf of her boyfriend. On the request of her boyfriend, Ashraf Khan alias Sameer Pathan, Manisha was responsible for collecting bags from returning travelers. She was supposed to hand over these bags to Ashraf Khan, the main suspect, who then planned to escape. As of now, seven suspects, including a woman, have been arrested, while the search for Ashraf Khan continues.
Ahmedabad DCP Zone 4, Kanan Desai, remarked that four travelers arrived at the international airport with suspicious substances in their bags, prompting the joint CISF operation. One of the bags concealed 1.75 kg of hybrid cannabis. Mohammed Kasam had arranged trips to Vietnam for these individuals thrice before. It was a regular affair, sending different individuals on 4 to 5-day trips.
How the Entire Racket Operates
The marijuana was cleverly concealed within cushions in the bags. Investigations are ongoing into how these passed through airport screening. Ashraf Khan orchestrated dispatching various groups to Vietnam, covering all travel and leisure expenses. When these travelers were about to return to India, they were each given a bag containing marijuana with 10,000 INR as remuneration. Their main task was to bring these marijuana-filled bags back to India. Among the arrested is Syed Miyana, who operates a rickshaw.
His role was to retrieve the marijuana bag from the airport when flights from Thailand arrived, then Manisha ensured the bag was discreetly placed in the rickshaw. Additionally, he was involved in recruiting individuals for smuggling marijuana from Vietnam to keep the operation running smoothly.
