Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is currently in the United States, where he joined President Donald Trump for a private dinner at the White House. During the dinner, Netanyahu also nominated Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize. A crucial topic of discussion was the resettlement of Palestinians.
At the beginning of the private dinner hosted by Trump, Netanyahu stated that the United States and Israel are exploring options to relocate Palestinians to other countries. The aim is to offer Palestinians a brighter future, which includes considering the relocation of Gaza's residents to neighboring countries.
Netanyahu explained that if Palestinians wish to stay in Gaza, they could, but should they wish to relocate, suitable countries are being identified for them to settle. He mentioned great progress in identifying such nations willing to welcome them.
Both Israel and the United States are in discussions with countries prepared to offer refuge to Palestinian citizens, Netanyahu affirmed.
President Trump told reporters that lifting U.S. sanctions on Syria would benefit the country, expressing his willingness to remove sanctions on Tehran when the time is right to give the nation a chance for reconstruction.
Earlier, Netanyahu had separate meetings with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and the U.S. Special Envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, at Blair House near the White House.
Where Could Palestinians Settle?
Trump had previously devised a five-point plan concerning Gaza, suggesting Palestinians should vacate the Gaza Strip and seek permanent settlement in Egypt, Jordan, or other countries, as Gaza is no longer livable.
Trump had stated that following the evacuation of Gaza, a comprehensive reconstruction plan would transform it into a hub resembling the Riviera of the Middle East.
Trump emphasized the focus on turning Gaza into the Riviera of the Middle East. The term 'Riviera' means coastline and is synonymous with famous tourist destinations like the French and Italian Rivieras. Trump envisions developing Gaza similarly as a tourism hub.
It’s notable that this is the third meeting between Trump and Netanyahu. Their discussions coincide with Israeli officials negotiating a ceasefire with Hamas, with the U.S. mediating. The first round of talks for this agreement has been completed.
