On Sunday, the police apprehended a Bangladeshi national named Shariful Islam Shahzad Mohammed Rohilla Amin Fakir, who had been living in Mumbai under the pseudonym Vijay Das. Evidence suggests he was in the city illegally. On Tuesday, the authorities conducted a crime scene reconstruction at Saif's Satguru Sharan apartment in Bandra.

1. What Evidence Was Found at Saif Ali Khan's Flat?

During the investigation, the police discovered Shahzad's cap in the room of Saif Ali Khan's young son, Jeh. Hair strands matching the suspect were also found in the cap and have been sent to FSL for DNA analysis. The forensics team also visited the building and identified fingerprints on the bathroom window, which Shahzad allegedly used to enter and exit. The stairs leading from the duct shaft were likewise examined.

2. Why Did Shahzad Stab Saif Ali Khan?

During interrogation, Shahzad confessed that he resorted to stabbing Saif Ali Khan multiple times in the back to free himself from Saif's strong hold. He then fled the apartment and hid in the building's garden for about two hours. A police officer noted that Shahzad had entered Saif's flat with the intent to steal through the bathroom window. Though spotted by the staff, he attempted to flee when confronted.

While arguing with the staff, Saif Ali Khan descended from the twelfth floor upon hearing the commotion. Sensing danger, Saif tightly held onto Shahzad, who, feeling trapped, began to stab his way free. This left Saif severely injured, allowing Shahzad to escape his grip.

4. How Did Shahzad Reach Mumbai from Bangladesh?

Assuming the attacker was still inside, Saif locked his flat's door. However, Shahzad managed to escape undetected using the same window entry. He remained hidden in the building's garden for about two hours post-attack. Originally from Jhalokathi district in Bangladesh, Fakir had been residing in Mumbai for over five months, undertaking odd jobs and was associated with a housekeeping agency.

5. How Did the Bangladeshi Infiltrator Get a Sim Card?

According to the police, Fakir assumed the identity of Vijay Das. About seven months ago, he crossed the Dawki River illegally to enter India and eventually arrived in Mumbai in search of work after a brief stint in West Bengal. Prior to this, he obtained a sim card by using a local person's Aadhaar card, registered under the name of Khukumoni Jahangir Sekha in West Bengal.

6. How Did He Find Work Without Documents in Mumbai?

Fakir, also known as Shahzad, attempted to procure an Aadhaar card but was unsuccessful. He sought employment in places that did not require documentation. A labor contractor, Amit Pandey, assisted him in securing housekeeping jobs at pubs and hotels in Worli and Thane. Upon inspecting his cellphone, the police discovered numerous calls were made to his family back in Bangladesh.
