Former Chief Minister of Jharkhand and leader of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, Champai Soren, wrote a lengthy post on X, indicating that he is poised to make a significant move. In his expansive post, he expressed his sorrow over the behavior he endured within his own party. Champai Soren wrote that when Hemant Soren was released from jail on bail and was asked to step down from the chief minister post at the legislative meeting, he was shattered as his self-esteem was hurt. He also mentioned that if Shibu Soren were active in politics today, this situation would not have arisen.
Here are five key points from Champai Soren's rebellious letter...
1. I have always practiced people-centric politics
Champai Soren described himself as a leader who rose from the movement. He wrote in his post that from raising the voice of workers against industrial houses at the beginning of his public life to the Jharkhand movement, he has always done people-centric politics. He continuously strived to ensure the rights of the state's tribals, natives, the poor, workers, students, and backward sections of society. Whether in office or not, he was always available for the public, consistently addressing the issues of those who dreamed of a better future with the state of Jharkhand.
2. Neither did wrong nor allowed any wrong to happen
Reflecting on his short 5-month tenure as Chief Minister, Champai Soren wrote that he dutifully and sincerely fulfilled his responsibilities towards the state. During this period, he made several decisions in the public interest and remained available to everyone, always. The state’s people will evaluate the decisions made considering elders, women, youth, students, and every section of society. When he came to power, he took an oath to serve the state by paying homage to heroes like Baba Tilka Manjhi, Bhagwan Birsa Munda, and Sido-Kanhu. Every child in Jharkhand knows that during his tenure, he neither acted wrongly nor allowed any wrong to happen to anyone.

3. All my programs were canceled while I was the CM
He shed light on the events following Hemant Soren’s release from jail. In his X post, he wrote that the day after Hul Diwas, he found out that all his programs for the next two days were canceled by the party leadership. This included a public program in Dumka and another for distributing appointment letters to PGT teachers. On inquiring, he was informed that the coalition had called a legislative meeting on July 3, and until then, he could not attend any program as the CM. Can anything be more insulting in a democracy than having someone else cancel a Chief Minister’s programs?
4. To whom should I show the pain given by my own?
Champai Soren described the incidents at the JMM legislative meeting after Hemant Soren's release as an insult. Despite swallowing this bitter pill of humiliation, he suggested distributing the appointment letters in the morning and attending the legislative meeting in the afternoon, to which a clear refusal was given. For the first time in his impeccable political career spanning over four decades, he was shattered from within. He spent two days in silence, introspecting and searching for faults in himself throughout the entire episode. He had no greed for power, but he could not display the pain caused to his dignity by his own people. Where could he express this pain given by his own?
5. It felt as if I had no existence in JMM
Champai Soren wrote that he had no attachment to power, so he immediately resigned, but his heart was emotional because of the blow to his self-respect. Overwhelmed by the humiliating behavior over the past three days, he struggled to control his tears. Still, they were only concerned about the chair. He felt as though he had no existence in the party he dedicated his entire life to. With a heavy heart, he said in the legislative meeting, ‘A new chapter of my life is starting from today.’ He had three options: retire from politics, establish his own organization, or continue on this path if he found a companion. From that day until today, and through the upcoming Jharkhand assembly elections, all options remain open for him in this journey.
