With only a few days left until the Maharashtra elections, the political climate is heating up over the 'Divide and Rule' slogan introduced by UP CM Yogi Adityanath. While the opposition is seizing upon this as a key issue, even leaders within the Mahayuti coalition are distancing themselves from it. Recently, Ashok Chavan, who has served as the state's Chief Minister and recently left Congress to join the BJP, criticized the slogan as irrelevant.

BJP's Rajya Sabha MP, Ashok Chavan, said that the slogan 'Divide and Rule' is entirely inappropriate and will not be accepted by the people of Maharashtra. He believes there is little relevance to such slogans, especially during election times. Chavan expressed his personal stance against the slogan, highlighting that such rhetoric does not contribute positively to society, and emphasized the importance of not offending anyone's sentiments.

Previously, BJP MLC Pankaja Munde also commented on the slogan, stating that Maharashtra does not need slogans like 'Divide and Rule'. She argued that such support cannot be given solely based on party affiliation, and instead, the focus should be on development. Munde stressed that a leader's responsibility is to represent and serve every individual residing in the region. According to her, this kind of narrative does not belong in Maharashtra. She explained that Yogi Adityanath's statement was made in the context of UP, where the political circumstances differ significantly, and the interpretation should reflect that context.

Ajit Pawar Also Opposed the Slogan

It's important to note that Ajit Pawar had mentioned the same slogan, 'Divide and Rule', clarifying that such statements would not be tolerated here. He stated that while it might have resonance in UP, it holds no place in Maharashtra, which values the teachings of saints and leaders like Shivaji and Ambedkar. Pawar declared that their teachings run in the blood of Maharashtrians, and committed to following their path, ensuring that the sentiments of Muslims remain unharmed.
