In the Maharajganj area of Bahraich district, Uttar Pradesh, a procession for the immersion of Durga idol was marred by violence on Sunday. Stone pelting and firing added chaos to the event, leaving two individuals gravely injured, one of whom later succumbed to injuries at the hospital. In response, police forces were swiftly deployed throughout the area. Following Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's strict orders, the negligent Station House Officer of Hardi and the local police post in-charge were suspended.

The incident occurred in Rehua Mansoor village under Hardi police station limits. The idol immersion procession, greeted with cheers, progressed through Maharajganj market and passed by Abdul Hamid's residence, when sudden unidentified stone-pelting began. Amidst the turmoil, miscreants resorted to firing, injuring Ram Gopal Mishra, 22, and another individual from Rehua Mansoor village.

Immersion Resumed Under Tight Security

Both injured men were transported to the district hospital, but one succumbed at Bahraich Medical College. News of the death reached Maharajganj market, inciting the crowd to vandalism and arson, leading to the fire and destruction of four houses. Following the outbreak of violence and arson, idol immersion was temporarily halted, only resuming once significant police deployment ensured safety.

CM Yogi Takes Swift Notice of the Incident

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath immediately took note of this tumultuous incident, asserting via a tweet that anyone attempting to disturb the peace in Bahraich Mahsi would be held accountable. He assured protection for all while mandating stringent actions against those involved in the negligence that precipitated this event. The CM’s directions highlighted the need for continued immersion activities, recommending that administrative and police officers stay on-site to coordinate dialogues with religious organizations.

The Chief Minister further insisted on identifying those whose negligence led to this mishap and urged for firm action. Acting on CM Yogi's directives, Bahraich's SP Vrinda Shukla took immediate action by suspending Hardi Police Station's SO Suresh Verma and Mahsi Police Post In-charge Shivkumar for their lapse in duty.
