The path is clear for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 clash between India and Pakistan, but a new challenge looms. Scheduled for February 15 (Sunday) at Colombo's R. Premadasa Stadium, this high-stakes match faces the threat of rain.

According to the Sri Lankan Meteorological Department, a low-pressure system is forming in the Bay of Bengal, increasing the likelihood of rain and thunderstorms in Colombo. On Sunday morning, Colombo is expected to experience warm and humid conditions, but these may change after noon.

The weather forecast predicts a chance of thunderstorms and rain ranging from 50 to 70 percent from afternoon until evening. Even before the scheduled match start at 7 PM, there could be heavy rain, potentially causing delays for the toss, reducing overs, or even leading to a match cancellation. The Sri Lankan Meteorological Department has issued a warning about the potential for a low-pressure area forming around February 15 in the southeast Bay of Bengal, advising people to keep an eye on weather updates.

What If the Match Is Washed Out?

If the match is canceled due to rain, the Indian team will advance to the Super 8 stage. This would also benefit the Pakistani team, granting them entry into the Super 8. If the match is washed out, both India and Pakistan would receive one point each, meaning they will have accumulated five points each from three matches and secure their spots in the Super 8 from Group A. Currently, India leads Group A's points table, followed by Pakistan and the United States (USA) at third.

If the India-Pakistan match is washed out, the United States, Namibia, and the Netherlands would be eliminated from the tournament. With two points from three matches, even if USA and the Netherlands win their remaining matches, they would only reach four points—less than India and Pakistan. Meanwhile, Namibia has lost both of its matches, leaving them with 0 points.

Should a result emerge from the India-Pakistan clash, the winning team will advance directly to the Super 8. The losing team will have four points and stand level with the USA and the Netherlands, leading to a qualification battle in the final matches. It is noteworthy that the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 does not have a reserve day for Group and Super 8 matches—reserve days are only set for the semifinals and finals.
