In Akot, a town in Maharashtra's Akola district, a political storm is brewing over the BJP and AIMIM alliance. All five AIMIM councilors endorsed Jiten Barethia, son of a former municipal chairman from the BJP, for the position of approved councilor. Hence, he was declared as an AIMIM quota approved councilor.

In the aftermath, the Chief Minister instructed to break the alliance, and the BJP issued a show cause notice to local MLA Prakash Bharasakle.

Following this, the AIMIM withdrew from the BJP-led 'Akot Vikas Manch' and formed an independent faction consisting of their five councilors. Nevertheless, the proximity between the two parties resurfaced during the selection process for the approved member. Taj Rana from AIMIM and Jiten Barethia from BJP were the initial contenders.

Due to late submission and subsequent rejection of Taj Rana's application, Jiten Barethia emerged as the sole valid candidate and was declared as the approved councilor from AIMIM.
