American President Donald Trump has set off an international storm with a post on his social media platform, Truth Social. In this post, featuring his official portrait, Trump declares himself as the ‘Acting President’ of Venezuela. At the same time, he presents himself as the 45th and 47th President of the United States, having assumed office on January 20, 2025.
This announcement comes on the heels of a “large-scale” military operation by the U.S. against Venezuela. During this mission, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores were taken to the United States, where they now face narcoterrorism charges in New York.
Trump insists that the U.S. will maintain control over Venezuela's government until a secure, just, and rational transfer of power is achieved, claiming his actions are in the Venezuelan people's best interests.

In the meantime, Venezuela's Vice President and Oil Minister, Delcy Rodríguez, has been sworn in as the interim president. However, Trump's assertion casts doubt on the legitimacy of this interim government.
Trump further announced that Venezuela's interim government will supply the U.S. with 30 to 50 million barrels of “high-quality embargoed oil,” which will be sold at market price, benefiting both the U.S. and Venezuela. He has directed U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright to implement this plan immediately.
