In response to the murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata, resident doctors are staging a nationwide strike. The Federation of All India Resident Doctors Association (FORDA) has called for all Resident Doctor Associations (RDA) in government hospitals to join the strike. Doctors from RML Hospital and Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi are protesting on the streets, while doctors in Lucknow’s KGMU Hospital are also demonstrating with banners and posters.
In Delhi and across India, resident doctors manage OPD, surgeries, and lab work. This strike is severely affecting healthcare services. Just a day earlier, AIIMS resident doctors held a candlelight march in protest.
Emergency Services to Remain Operational
The RDA has announced that emergency services will continue during the strike. Only resident doctors are participating, while senior doctors and consultants will still attend to patients. Emergency services will not be disrupted.
OPD Closed at RML Hospital in Delhi
Resident doctors have halted their services in the OPD at Delhi's RML Hospital, although emergency services are ongoing. The doctors demand a CBI investigation into the case. They also call for improved security measures in hospitals and strict action against responsible officials.

Medical College Principal Resigns
Dr. Sandeep Ghosh, Principal of RG Kar Medical College, where the incident occurred, has resigned amid ongoing protests. Resident doctors have been demanding his resignation since the event.
Call for Transparent Investigation
Dr. Sharda Prasad, Vice President of FORDA, stated that the association is calling for a nationwide strike to ensure a transparent investigation at RG Kar Hospital. They demand swift apprehension and stringent action against the culprits.
Doctors Demand CBI Probe
Dr. Indra Shekhar, President of the AIIMS Resident Doctors Association, expressed dissatisfaction with the current investigation. Many participating doctors are also calling for a CBI investigation. Meanwhile, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has promised stringent punishment for the accused and supported the demand for a CBI probe.
