An important update has emerged regarding the Krishna Janmabhoomi and Shahi Idgah Mosque dispute in Mathura. The Allahabad High Court has paved the way for simultaneous hearings on the petitions related to this matter. The court rejected the recall application filed by the mosque party. The decision was delivered by the single bench of Justice Mayank Kumar Jain. The next hearing is scheduled for November 6 at 2:00 PM. The court reserved its decision on October 16 after concluding arguments on the recall application.
What is the Dispute?
The controversy involves 13.37 acres of land between the Krishna Janmabhoomi temple and the Shahi Idgah mosque in Mathura. Approximately 11 acres belong to the temple and 2.37 acres to the mosque. The mosque's construction was commissioned by Aurangzeb in 1669-70. The Hindu side claims that Aurangzeb demolished the ancient Keshavnath temple on Krishna Janmabhoomi to build the Shahi Idgah mosque. Conversely, the Muslim side asserts that there are no existing proofs that the Shahi Idgah mosque was built by demolishing a temple.
The Shahi Idgah Mosque Trust has challenged the Allahabad High Court's December 14 decision on the grounds that the petitions filed by Hindu devotees claiming the mosque's structure are prohibited under the Places of Worship Act, 1991.
