Delhi: Driver Arrested for Breaking Rau's IAS Gate with SUV, 7 Arrested So Far

Three students died in Old Rajendra Nagar, Delhi, after water filled the coaching center's basement. Seven people have been arrested, including the owner and coordinator. The police have also arrested the SUV driver, whose speed caused the pressure that led to water entering the building.

Police in Old Rajendra Nagar, Delhi, are in action mode after the unfortunate death of three students due to water filling the basement of a coaching center. On Monday, the police arrested five more people, adding to the earlier arrests of the coaching center's owner and coordinator. The SUV driver, who drove through the main road, causing increased pressure and subsequent water ingress into the building, has also been apprehended. The police have seized the SUV involved in damaging the coaching center's gate.

Authorities have stated that the number of arrested individuals has now reached seven. Among the five newly arrested are four relatives, including the building owner's son, and the owner of the SUV. The police assert that strict action will be taken against all those involved. Meanwhile, preparations are underway to remove illegal encroachments near the coaching center, with a bulldozer already on-site.

How did the Fatal Incident Occur?

On a rainy Saturday evening, water filled the basement of Rau's IAS coaching center in Old Rajendra Nagar, Delhi, leading to a tragic accident. Three students from the coaching center lost their lives. The police have registered an FIR and formed several teams to investigate the accident. The center's owner, Abhishek Gupta, and the coordinator have been arrested.

How Did the Basement Flood?

The pertinent question arises as to how the basement accumulated so much water that students were put in life-threatening danger. Eyewitness accounts reveal shocking details. According to a student, about 30-35 students were present in the library in the basement. At 7 PM, when the library closed and students exited, they were met with a strong flow of water. As they attempted to evacuate, the water rapidly rose to knee-deep levels.

Water Filled to the Ceiling in Just 2-3 Minutes

The flow was so intense that climbing the stairs was nearly impossible. Within 2-3 minutes, the entire basement was submerged under 10-12 feet of water. ropes were thrown in to rescue the students, but the murky water made visibility almost zero. Students were being pulled out one by one. Following behind were two girls who could not make it out.

Rapid Water Ingress

The pressure from the gate side was incredibly strong, thwarting efforts to climb the stairs. The water filled the basement so quickly, rising to the roof within 2-3 minutes. The height of the basement ceiling was 12 feet, and in the blink of an eye, it turned into a flash flood. Though ropes were thrown in for rescue, the students could not see them in the filthy water.
