RAU's IAS Tragedy: Another Petition in High Court Over Student Deaths, Multiple Issues Raised

A petition filed in the Delhi High Court demands district-level committees in each district to investigate and maintain comprehensive records of illegal commercial constructions.

In a tragic incident on Saturday, three students lost their lives at the coaching institute in Old Rajendra Nagar, Delhi. A public interest litigation has been filed in the Delhi High Court regarding this incident. Notably, another petition was also filed on Sunday. Advocate Rudra Vikram Singh has appealed to the Delhi High Court, urging the formation of a high-level committee for an impartial investigation into the incident at the Old Rajendra Nagar coaching institute.

How Did the Accident Happen?

A flood occurred in the basement of Rau's IAS Coaching Center in Old Rajendra Nagar, Delhi, due to heavy rainfall on Saturday evening. Tragically, three students lost their lives. The police have registered an FIR and formed multiple teams to investigate the incident. Coach's owner Abhishek Gupta and the coordinator have been arrested.

How Did the Basement Fill with Water?

Questions arise as to how the basement of the coaching center got flooded to such an extent that it claimed the lives of students. Eyewitnesses revealed shocking details. According to a student present, about 30-35 students were in the library in the basement. When the library closed at 7 PM, and we exited, water was gushing in with tremendous pressure. By the time we evacuated, water had already reached knee-level.

Flooding Within 2 to 3 Minutes

The water pressure was so intense that we couldn't climb the stairs. Within 2-3 minutes, the entire basement filled with 10-12 feet of water. Ropes were thrown in to help us escape, but the water was so murky that we couldn't see anything. Students were being pulled out one by one. One student mentioned that there were two girls behind him who couldn't make it out.

Water Filled with High Pressure

Water was coming in with high pressure from the gate. We tried to escape, but the pressure was too strong to climb the stairs. Within 2-3 minutes, the entire basement, with a 12-foot high ceiling, was filled with water like a flash flood. Ropes were thrown in to rescue us, but in the dirty water, we couldn't see the ropes.
