A deeply disturbing and heart-wrenching incident has emerged from Bahraich district in Uttar Pradesh. Here, a 42-year-old woman, along with her two minor daughters, ended her life by jumping into a pond in the Kot Bazaar area. According to the police, the woman faced alleged taunts and harassment from her husband and in-laws for not bearing a son.
Sanjay Singh, the station in-charge of Payagpur Police Station, stated that the deceased woman has been identified as Nisha. She was married to Vishnu, a resident of Kot Bazaar. The couple had three daughters aged two, seven, and ten years. In this tragic incident, seven-year-old Misti and two-year-old Khushboo also lost their lives.

Trapped in the Desire for a Son
According to the police, a complaint filed by Nisha's father alleges that his daughter was mentally tortured for not giving birth to a son. Taunts came from her husband and in-laws. Additionally, there were accusations of cruelty over dowry demands.
The complaint suggests that this harassment had left Nisha mentally drained. The police state that the investigation will proceed based on the complaint and available facts.
Plunge into Oblivion
Station In-Charge Sanjay Singh reported that on Saturday, Nisha took her daughters Misti and Khushboo to a deep pond outside the village, where she took the leap with them. It was only much later, when her family and villagers became aware, that the police were informed.
During the night, with the help of divers, the three bodies were retrieved from the pond. The bodies were taken into custody for further action.
FIR Lodged Against Husband and In-Laws
In this case, the police have registered a case against the deceased's husband, Vishnu, and his relatives under sections 85 (cruelty and domestic violence) and 108 (abetment to suicide) of the Indian Penal Code. Moreover, sections under the Dowry Prohibition Act have also been applied.
The police affirm that the investigation is ongoing, considering all aspects for the forthcoming legal proceedings.
