In the border areas of Sukma and Bijapur in Chhattisgarh, the police are conducting a prominent search operation against Naxalites. On January 8, based on intelligence, joint forces of Sukma DRG, STF, and Cobra commenced an anti-Naxal search operation in the Maoist strongholds. So far, three Naxalites have been neutralized. Intermittent encounters have been happening since the morning of January 9 between the security forces and the Maoists, and search operations are ongoing in the surrounding areas to locate Maoist hideouts.
After the Naxalite attack in Bijapur, the police responded, successfully neutralizing three Naxalites. This came after a Naxal IED attack on the police in Chhattisgarh, prompting the initiation of this decisive action.
Ongoing Campaign Against Naxalites
In the Jagargunda region, over two dozen Naxalites are currently encircled by police forces, and operations are persistently underway. According to intelligence agencies, after the Bijapur Naxalite attack on the police, Naxalites in the Sukma area were planning a major incident. As soon as the police got wind of this, they swiftly surrounded the Naxalites, sparking an encounter.

792 Naxalites Surrendered in Bastar Last Year
Recently, IG Sundarraj P informed that last year, 792 Naxalites surrendered in Bastar Division, which consists of 7 districts. Near Ambeli village under Kutru police station area, Naxalites detonated an IED blast on a convoy vehicle carrying security personnel, resulting in the deaths of four personnel each from state police units DRG and Bastar Fighters, alongside a driver.
This was the largest attack by Naxalites on security forces in Chhattisgarh over the past two years. DRG personnel, often called the 'sons of the soil', are recruited from among local youths and surrendering Naxalites in the Bastar region. DRG is recognized as the frontline anti-Naxal force in the state. To combat the left-wing extremism persisting for over four decades, DRG units have been established at different times across the 7 districts of the 40,000 square kilometer Bastar Division.
