Dr. Ambedkar Samman Scholarship:
Former Chief Minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal, has announced the 'Dr. Ambedkar Scholarship' for Dalit students. Through this scholarship, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government will cover the entire expenses for Dalit students dreaming of studying abroad. Moreover, the children of government employees will also benefit from this scholarship.
On Saturday, December 21, 2024, Arvind Kejriwal made a momentous announcement for the people of Delhi, in honor of Babasaheb, stating that if the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) wins the Delhi Assembly elections, the Delhi government will implement the Dr. Ambedkar Honor Scholarship scheme. Under this program, Dalit students who have been admitted to foreign universities will have their entire education expenses covered by the Delhi government. Additionally, children of government employees will also be encompassed within this scheme.
During the event, Arvind Kejriwal remarked that Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar also had to temporarily abandon his studies at the London School of Economics (LSE) due to financial constraints. He later completed his education with financial assistance. He added, "AAP will ensure that no Dalit student from Delhi has to abandon their education because of a lack of funds. This is our tribute and true homage to Dr. Ambedkar."
Kejriwal made this announcement in response to a statement by Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Parliament. He remarked, "HM Shah insulted Dr. Ambedkar in Parliament. His statement has personally hurt me and millions of Ambedkar followers. In free India, no one could imagine disrespecting Dr. Ambedkar in the Parliament."
Delhi Government's Focus on Education:
Delhi's Chief Minister and Education Minister Atishi emphasized that 25% of Delhi's budget is being spent on education. She stated, "The objective of the AAP government is to provide quality education to students from all walks of life."
