The nation observes the 26th Kargil Vijay Diwas this year, a remarkable celebration in India's history. It marks that fateful day in 1999 when Indian soldiers courageously reclaimed the high-altitude, snow-capped peaks amidst constant enemy shelling. This occasion saw the Indian Air Force, President Droupadi Murmu, and the Army Chief pay homage to the fallen heroes.

President Droupadi Murmu conveyed, "On Kargil Vijay Diwas, I pay tribute to the brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the motherland. This day represents our soldiers' exceptional bravery, courage, and unwavering determination. Their dedication and supreme sacrifice will continue to inspire our citizens forever."

Paying tribute to the Kargil soldiers, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi stated, "Kargil Vijay Diwas symbolizes the Indian Army's unparalleled bravery, valor, and steadfast determination. On this proud occasion, we honor those heroes whose valor made this historic victory possible. The Indian Army remains committed to safeguarding the nation's sovereignty and dignity."

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also paid tribute to the Kargil soldiers, expressing, "Heartfelt wishes to fellow citizens on Kargil Vijay Diwas. This occasion reminds us of the unprecedented courage and valor of those brave sons of Mother India who dedicated their lives to defend the nation's honor. Their spirit to lay down their lives for the motherland will inspire every generation."

Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth, and Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi will attend the 'Kargil Vijay Diwas' ceremony in Dras, Kargil district, Ladakh. The army will launch three significant projects during this event. The central ministers had already reached Kargil and participated in various cultural programs and other events held the previous day.

This anniversary is not just a date but a symbol of India's unity. It salutes those soldiers who, in the oxygen-deprived, freezing conditions, turned every peak into a testimony of their bravery. The Kargil War began in May 1999 when intruders silently crossed the Line of Control and occupied Indian posts.

The intruders' aim was to cut off National Highway 1A, the main route connecting Srinagar to Leh, but they underestimated India's resolve. In response, India launched 'Operation Vijay'—a mission characterized by meticulous planning, firm resolve, and the indomitable spirit of the soldiers.

Over two months of grueling struggle, Indian soldiers fought inch by inch through the treacherous terrain until every intruder was expelled and every post was back under Indian control. This is why today, the nation pays tribute to the heroes of 1999.
