A festive celebration turned tragic in Motihari, Bihar, as a dragon swing catastrophically failed. In the ensuing accident, a young woman suffered a fatal injury while three others were severely hurt. The Kalyanpur police precinct's Khatolwa region has been holding a grand ceremonial event for several days, featuring an accompanying fair with various amusement rides, including the now fateful dragon swing that many thronged to enjoy. The joyride ended in disaster without warning.
Relatives allege that the operator's negligence led to this heart-wrenching incident. Three other girls were seriously injured in the collapse of the attraction supposed to amplify the fair's allure. Among them was a young woman soon to be wed, who met a tragic end.
Dragon swing shattered mid-operation after cars collided
Reports indicate that the swing broke and fell as its sections collided while in motion, leading to grave injuries to the four girls on board. One of them, whose wedding was just months away, died on the spot.
Panic and chaos erupted post-accident
The deceased was identified as Priya Kumari. Another young woman named Ruby Kumari, along with three others, was grievously wounded. The incident caused widespread panic and commotion at the fairground. The injured were rushed to the hospital, where Priya was declared dead, while the others received urgent medical attention amid serious conditions.
Negligence accusations levelled at fair and swing operators
Following the accident, police from Kalyanpur station and DSP Satyendra Kumar Singh arrived at the scene to assess the situation and speak with the injured and the bereaved family. They provided guidance to the necessary officials. Grief engulfed Priya's family, leaving them devastated. The family has accused the fair organizers, swing operators, and the local administration of gross negligence.
