More than a year has passed since the Lok Sabha elections concluded, yet several parties have not submitted their election expenditure details to the Election Commission. Taking a proactive stance, the electoral authority has issued notices to 127 parties in Uttar Pradesh.
Under the Representation of the People Act, 1951, the Commission has requested detailed account statements from the last three years, duly audited. The Uttar Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer's office has issued these notices as per the guidelines released on September 19 by the Election Commission of India.
Political parties must respond to this notice by October 3 at the UP Chief Electoral Office. Hearings for these cases are scheduled for October 6, 7, 8, and 9. The notice also states that failure to respond within the stipulated time will be considered as the party having no comments.
