In the Unnao district of Uttar Pradesh, a young woman was apprehended in a field with a man by villagers. The villagers then brutally assaulted the two, and a video of the entire incident was recorded. After the incident, both individuals were chased away from the field. The woman later took her own life at home. The police have now registered two FIRs in this case.
According to Unnao police, the woman was discovered hanging from the ceiling of her room on Monday. After being taken down, she was found deceased. Her family contacted the police, providing a written account of the events.
The Fatehpur Chaurasi police station filed a case against the companion caught with the woman in the field under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) Section 376 (rape), and he was subsequently arrested. Meanwhile, six villagers involved in assaulting the couple have been taken into custody under IPC sections 306 (abetment of suicide), 323 (intentionally causing injury), and 354C (voyeurism).
An Unnao police officer informed PTI that the investigation has revealed a love affair between the 20-year-old woman and Rohit Nishad, 25. The two met in a field on Monday evening, where some villagers known to the victim and her family apprehended them and attacked them, recording several videos of the incident.
One video shows the young woman during the assault pleading with a villager, begging for mercy, while he appears to be striking her with a shoe and hurling abuses, with Rohit Nishad standing some distance away. The police are now proceeding with further actions in this case.
