Mobile addiction has quietly woven its way into everyone's life, to the point where it overshadows routine living, and in some cases, leads to fatal consequences. A 20-year-old girl from Surat, Gujarat, succumbed to her addiction by taking her own life while her family was desperately seeking a cure.
In Gopipura, Surat, Vishakha Rana's mobile addiction had her family worried. Despite their efforts and medical consultations, her habits persisted. A psychiatrist was consulted, but to little avail.
Twisting her neck and slurring her speech had become a strange habit
Amidst this, she started doing face exercises found on the internet, which led her to speak with a twisted neck and mouth. Alarmed by these symptoms, her family consulted a doctor who assured that her face was fine. However, subsequent psychiatric treatment lasted two months.
To prove their point, her distraught parents even brought medical files from the outside of the civil hospital's post-mortem house. Through tears, they detailed their daughter's addiction to mobile phones.
'My daughter used to perform face exercises she discovered on the Internet'
According to the family, these exercises distorted her face, and despite a doctor's reassurances and attempts to limit her mobile phone usage, her condition worsened. One Saturday, after returning home from the factory, her brother found the family rushing her to the hospital, only to learn she had hung herself. At the hospital, the doctor confirmed her death, leaving the family in shock.
