Yashasvi Jaiswal:

The fourth test match between India and Australia was held in Melbourne. On the final day, December 30, Team India was tasked with chasing a target of 340 runs. While most Indian batsmen struggled, Yashasvi managed to play a significant innings.

Controversy Surrounding Yashasvi's Dismissal

Facing 208 balls, Yashasvi scored 84 runs with 8 boundaries. Pat Cummins got him caught behind by wicketkeeper Alex Carey. Although Yashasvi's dismissal seemed a bit unlucky, as the field umpire did not initially give him out. Yet, third umpire Sharfuddoula (Bangladesh) overturned this decision following Australia's DRS appeal.

Although no spike was visible on the Snickometer in the replay, the Bangladeshi umpire reversed the decision based on the deflection. The question arises whether the third umpire, in the absence of absolute certainty, should have supported the on-field umpire. Sunil Gavaskar expressed significant displeasure at the third umpire's decision, questioning why decisions are made like this when technology is involved.

BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla also expressed discontent with this decision. He tweeted, 'Yashasvi Jaiswal was clearly not out. The third umpire should have noted what the technology was indicating. There must be compelling reasons when overturning the field umpire's decision.'

The entire drama unfolded on the fifth delivery of the 71st over of Team India's innings. Pat Cummins delivered the ball near the leg stump. Yashasvi was deceived and attempted to pull the ball, but it went to wicketkeeper Alex Carey, who lunged forward to catch it. Convinced that Jaiswal was out, Cummins opted for DRS, while Yashasvi was confident he wasn't out. Following the third umpire's decision, he was seen discussing with the field umpire.
