In a remarkable police operation, 12 workers from Madhya Pradesh were liberated from coffee plantations in Karnataka, where they were held against their will. These laborers had initially journeyed from Ashoknagar district in Madhya Pradesh with dreams of a better livelihood.
Upon receiving a tip-off on January 30, Ashoknagar SP Vineet Jain swiftly organized a team of diligent officers from the Madhya Pradesh police department to head to the picturesque hills of Chikmagalur district. Their mission: to find and free the captive workers.
Manish Sharma, in charge of the Ashoknagar Police Station, shed light on the case, revealing that once the workers' location was verified, collaboration with Jayapura police was initiated. This successful joint operation brought 12 relieved workers safely back to their homeland in Madhya Pradesh.
Meanwhile, the elusive contractor Afsar Ali, who orchestrated the workers' transportation under the guise of a promising job with a Rs 90,000 advance from the plantation management, was apprehended. He failed to fulfill his commitments and faced justice when charged and placed under judicial custody.
The Superintendent of Police highlighted that these workers were being exploited under conditions unacceptable in a dignified society. The case has prompted further investigation into possible similar abuses, aiming to prevent any more individuals from falling into such predicaments.
As the story unfolds, it underscores the enduring hope and resilience of those seeking better opportunities while warning against deceptive promises.
