The Southwest monsoon typically arrives in Kerala around June 1st, moving northwards and covering the entire country by July 15th. It precedes this by hitting the Andaman and Nicobar Islands on May 22nd. However, this year, the monsoon arrived in the Andaman Islands three days ahead of the usual schedule, on May 19th.
Expected Monsoon Arrival Dates by State
According to the Meteorological Department, the El Niño system is weakening, and La Niña conditions are becoming active, which is favorable for a good monsoon this year. Consequently, the monsoon has made an early arrival in India. Additionally, the Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) conditions are also turning favorable this year, signaling positive signs for the monsoon.
