The Lok Sabha election results have clarified. The NDA has secured a majority, and the INDIA alliance has also emerged in a better position. In West Bengal, a major political play was observed. Despite high hopes, the BJP's attempts to infiltrate Mamata Banerjee's stronghold were unsuccessful, resulting in a significant setback for the party in this state.
While the BJP secured 18 seats in 2019, this year it shrank to only 12, and the Trinamool Congress, which owned 22 seats in 2019, has now climbed to 29. Furthermore, the Congress secured 1 seat.
Results contrary to exit polls
The exit polls were indicating a favorable BJP outcome for 2024, which hasn’t translated into actual results. Prior predictions of the NDA gaining a 46% vote share in West Bengal’s 42 seats have fallen short, and the TMC, projected only at 40%, has surpassed expectations. Hopes for the BJP to increase their seat count from projections of 26-31 have not been realized, and the INDIA alliance's forecast was set at an unfulfilled 0-2. Notably, consensus within the state's INDIA alliance was not achieved. The TMC and Congress competed separately.
