Humayun Kabir, a Controversial Figure in Elections
Humayun Kabir represents the Bharatpur constituency, a Muslim-majority area in Murshidabad, and was a minister during Mamata Banerjee's first term. He initially contested from the Rejinagar seat on a TMC ticket in 2011. Recently, his statement during election campaigns became controversial. He remarked on dispatching BJP supporters into the Bhagirathi River after electoral victory. Additionally, he questioned the demographic balance in Murshidabad, noting a 70% Muslim population.
In response, Bollywood actor and BJP leader Mithun Chakraborty mentioned, 'I say we will bury you underground, not in Bhagirathi, as it is sacred to us.'
