Chandigarh's New Year Security:

To ensure a peaceful and safe celebration for the New Year, Chandigarh Police has made extensive security arrangements. From the evening of December 31 to January 1, enhanced surveillance will be in place. Their aim is to let citizens welcome the New Year without fear. Additional police forces will be stationed in every critical area of the city, with special attention to hotels, pubs, malls, and markets. Violations of the law will be met with strict actions, and no negligence will be tolerated.

Deployment of Over 1000 Police Officers

According to Chandigarh's SSP Kanwardeep Kaur, over 1000 police officers will be deployed for the New Year’s eve. This does not include traffic police and PCR staff. Twelve gazetted officers will supervise these personnel, along with 20 inspectors and 16 SHOs active in the field. The presence of police will aid in maintaining law and order across the city, with particular focus on sensitive areas. Patrolling will continue late into the night.

Checkpoints Throughout the City

On New Year’s Eve, extensive checkpoints will be established throughout Chandigarh. Police plan to set up 18 outer and 44 internal checkpoints, with 16 joint ones with traffic police. These will ensure thorough vehicle checks. Special attention will be given to drunk driving, and any suspicious activity will be promptly addressed. Police believe these checkpoints will curb criminal activities.

Focus on Women's Safety

The safety of women during New Year's celebrations is a priority for the police, who have made special arrangements. A dedicated Lady Squad of 20 female officers will patrol vehicles and monitor sensitive areas like pubs, malls, and markets. Any complaint related to women's safety will receive immediate attention, ensuring they feel completely secure. Harassment or misconduct will be strictly punished.

Free Pick and Drop Service

Chandigarh Police has introduced a special service for women. PCR vehicles, manned by female staff, will be stationed at seven key locations. Women can call 112 to avail the free pick and drop service, particularly during nighttime for safety. Police encourage extensive use of this service to ensure secure transportation for women.

Zero Tolerance for Drunk Driving

On New Year's Eve, police will adopt a zero-tolerance policy against drunk driving. There will be widespread use of breath analyzers to check compliance. Violators will face heavy fines and legal consequences. Preventing road accidents is a priority, and people are urged not to drive under the influence. A safe journey ensures a safe celebration.

Stern Action on Rowdy Celebrations

The police will keep a watchful eye on rowdy revelers. Drinking in public places will be strictly dealt with, and actions will be taken against loud music and vehicles with modified silencers. Noise pollution offenders will not be spared. The police have made it clear that disturbing the peace is unacceptable. The rules apply equally to everyone, and flouting the law under the guise of celebration will be costly.

Police Appeal

Chandigarh Police appeals to everyone to celebrate the New Year responsibly. The cooperation of citizens is essential to keep the city safe. In any emergency, contact 112 promptly. Women are encouraged to freely use available facilities. Observing traffic rules and considering others’ safety is important. The police hope for a happy and secure start to the New Year.
