The southwest monsoon has retreated from remaining parts of Bihar and Jharkhand, and it has receded from parts of West Bengal, Sikkim, Chhattisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh, along with remaining parts of Odisha, Assam, Meghalaya, and the northwest Bay of Bengal. Favorable conditions exist for the monsoon's withdrawal from parts of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Maharashtra, and northern Bay of Bengal over the next two days.

The Southwest Monsoon is anticipated to retreat from remaining parts of the region by October 18. During this period, northeast monsoon activity could begin in the southeast peninsular region due to easterly and northeasterly winds over southern Peninsula, South, and adjoining central Bay of Bengal. A low-pressure area over the central Arabian Sea has turned into a depression, expected to advance toward the Oman coast in the next two days.

According to Skymet, the upcoming 24 hours may witness moderate to heavy rainfall in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, South Interior Karnataka, and Coastal Andhra Pradesh. Telangana, Konkan, and Goa might experience light to moderate rainfall with occasional heavy showers.
Light to moderate rainfall is also possible in Vidarbha, Marathwada, Central Maharashtra, South Gujarat, and South Madhya Pradesh. Likewise, Northeast India, Sikkim, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Southeastern Rajasthan, Lakshadweep, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands may see light showers. A cyclonic circulation over the Southeast Bay of Bengal has generated a low-pressure area, now more organized and shifting toward central parts of the southern Bay of Bengal. This is likely to strengthen into a depression or deep depression within 24 hours, heading west-northwest to approach the eastern coast of Sri Lanka near the southwest Bay of Bengal. From October 15 night till October 16, extensive to very heavy showers might lash Tamil Nadu's coastal stretch from Chennai to Kanyakumari. Central coastal zones such as Puducherry, Karaikal, Nagapattinam, Tondi, and Tuticorin could confront flood-like situations. This significant downpour will extend into the state's interior, reaching regions like Trichy, Madurai, Thanjavur, Erode, Karur, Tiruppur, Coimbatore, and Ooty.
Heavy Rain Alert for Bengaluru, Mysuru, Mandya, Mangaluru
Heavy rains are also expected in Bengaluru, Mysuru, Mandya, Mangaluru, and Karwar from October 16 to 17.
