Currently, Northern India is facing the wrath of an intense heatwave. The weather department anticipates the continuation of heatwave conditions across Northwest India and central regions throughout June. However, a respite is expected from May 29 as a new Western Disturbance becomes active, which may lead to rain and hailstorms in several states. The meteorological department suggests that relief from blistering heat could come within the next three days.
Relief from heat possible in three days
According to IMD head Mrityunjay Mohapatra, barring parts of the peninsular India, an above-normal maximum temperature is likely throughout the country in June. Generally, two to three heatwave days are recorded in Northwest India and surrounding regions in June. This year, however, there could be four to six heatwave days.

During this period, storm activities might be seen in Northwest India, and there is a possibility of rainfall in the Western Himalayan region.
Heatwaves expected to persist through June
IMD reports suggest that Rajasthan and Gujarat experienced nine to twelve heatwave days in May, with temperatures reaching between 45 to 50 degrees Celsius.
