Several states in India are witnessing the fury of rains. The hill states are facing devastation due to cloudbursts, and hundreds have lost their lives in a landslide in Wayanad, Kerala due to heavy rainfall. The Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for heavy rain on August 2 in Karnataka, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Assam, Meghalaya, Madhya Pradesh, and Maharashtra.
Delhi Weather Update:
The weather department has issued a rain alert for several areas of Delhi-NCR. Moderate rain is expected today (Friday), August 2, in Delhi, Noida, and Ghaziabad. There is a likelihood of moderate to heavy rain in Delhi and its adjoining areas until August 2. However, the intensity of the rain may reduce afterward.
According to the IMD, the maximum temperature in Delhi this week could be between 33 to 35 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature might be around 24 to 27 degrees Celsius.

The weather department has issued a rain warning in Gujarat for the next five days, along with a thunderstorm warning. Due to offshore trough and cyclonic circulation, an alert for heavy rain has been issued in different districts of Gujarat. The weather department has predicted that wind speeds in the coastal areas of Gujarat could reach 45 kilometers per hour and has warned fishermen not to venture out to sea.
Orange and Yellow Rain Alerts:
On August 3, the weather department issued an orange alert for heavy rain in Bhavnagar, Bharuch, Chhota Udaipur, Narmada, Tapi, Dang, Surat, Navsari, Valsad, Daman, Dadra and Nagar Haveli. Meanwhile, a yellow alert for heavy rain has been issued in Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Amreli, Gir Somnath, Anand, Vadodara, and Panchmahal.
On August 4, an orange alert has been issued for heavy rain in south Gujarat’s Surat, Navsari, Valsad, Daman, Dadra, and Nagar Haveli. Additionally, a yellow alert for heavy rain has been warned for Kutch, Gir Somnath, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Bharuch, Narmada, Tapi, and Dang. On August 5, an orange alert has been issued for heavy rain in Navsari, Valsad, Daman, Dadra, and Nagar Haveli.
Providing information about the good rains in Gujarat and kharif crops, State Agriculture Minister Raghavji Patel said that the state has received over 60 percent of the season's total average rainfall so far in Saurashtra, Kutch, and North Gujarat, among other regions.
Increase in Kharif Crop Sowing:
Providing details about the ongoing kharif season’s sowing until July 31, the agriculture minister stated that around 70 lakh hectares of land have been sown with kharif crops so far this year. Last year, during this period, kharif crops were sown on 74 lakh hectares in the state. If we consider the average of the last three years, then this year, sowing has been done on 81 percent of the total 85 lakh hectare area of the state. The maximum sowing is of cotton, spanning over 23 lakh hectares.
So far, kharif crops have been sown in a total of 22.90 lakh hectares of land for oilseeds in Gujarat. Compared to last year, the cultivation area for oilseed crops has increased by 1 lakh hectares. While last year, groundnut was sown over about 16 lakh hectares during this period, this year, groundnut has been sown in more than 18.80 lakh hectares, with an increase of approximately 2.5 lakh hectares.
Heavy Rain Alert in 5 States:
The monsoon is set to bring a heavy spell of rain in Northwest India over the next three days, with heavy rain likely in Delhi-NCR. Additionally, the monsoon activity is expected to remain vigorous in Central India for the next 4-5 days. Very heavy rain could occur at isolated places in Madhya Maharashtra, Coastal Karnataka, East Madhya Pradesh, Konkan, Goa, and West Madhya Pradesh.
