A feud is stirring between two prominent Kshatriya figures in Sultanpur, Uttar Pradesh, captivating the district’s political landscape. On one side stands BJP MLA Vinod Singh, with Baahubali brothers Chandrabhedra Singh and Yashbhadra Singh, famously known as Sonu and Monu, opposing him.
Recently, at the Ayodhya Court complex, a search uncovered weapons and ammunition in a bag on the day Monu was to testify. Previously, in 2014, Monu had survived a lethal attack in the same court, leading him to skip the recent court date over safety concerns.
Yashbhadra Singh has decided against appearing at the Ayodhya Court, citing threats to his life related to a reopened case from the past. MLA Vinod Singh and former village head Kamla Devi are formally accused in this ongoing case. A charge sheet was filed by the police in 2020-21, leading to a renewed court warrant against Yashbhadra Singh.

On the day Monu was due in court, a man with two illegal firearms and ammunition was detained. This incident echoes the attack in 2014 involving accused individual Jainendra Sharma, with phone records indicating Vinod Singh’s contact with the assailants. Based on these findings, Vinod Singh was charged.
Yashbhadra Singh suspects similar threats prompted him to avoid the recent hearing.
The rivalry between Sonu-Monu and Vinod Singh has spanned over a decade and a half. Recently, Vinod Singh requested the removal of a statue commemorating Sonu and Monu’s late father, sparking another political dispute. BJP MLC Devendra Pratap Singh protested the removal, writing to the DM, which in turn prompted Vinod Singh to complain to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath about Devendra Pratap.
