'We Would Never Have Approved Afzal Guru's Execution,' Says Omar Abdullah

Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has stated that 'I don't think Afzal Guru's execution served any purpose.' This statement by Omar Abdullah has sparked a new political controversy. He mentioned that the execution of Afzal Guru, who was convicted in the 2001 Parliament attack, did not serve any purpose.

He also said that if needed, the Jammu and Kashmir government would never have approved Afzal Guru's execution. Speaking to the news agency ANI, National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah clarified that the Jammu and Kashmir government had no involvement in Afzal Guru's execution and reiterated that it did not serve any purpose.

Abdullah said, 'The unfortunate thing was that the Jammu and Kashmir government had nothing to do with the execution of Afzal Guru. Justifying his stance, Omar Abdullah said that he is against capital punishment and does not believe in the infallibility of courts. He said, 'Through evidence, we have seen repeatedly, maybe not in India but in other countries, where people were executed and then proven wrong.'

Elections to Be Held in Three Phases

In Jammu and Kashmir, elections will be held in three phases. In the first phase, voting for 24 seats will be on September 18, the second phase for 26 seats will be on September 25, and the third phase for 40 seats will be on October 1. The election results will be announced on October 8.

BJP Releases Manifesto

Ahead of the assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has released its manifesto. Union Home Minister Amit Shah released the party's manifesto. He said that Jammu and Kashmir have been significant for our party since independence. We have made numerous efforts to keep it integrated.

He mentioned that Article 370 is a thing of the past and will never return because it was the ideology that gave stones to the youth. Amit Shah said that talks and bomb explosions cannot happen simultaneously. He is not in favor of negotiating with Pakistan. Amit Shah stated that he had already mentioned that the statehood will be restored and there should be no confusion about this.
