The second day of the India Mobility Global Expo (BMGE 2025) in Delhi was remarkable as Pune-based startup Vayve Mobility officially launched India's first solar-powered car, 'Vayve Eva', for sale. This compact electric vehicle, under 3 meters, is priced at just INR 3.25 lakh (ex-showroom). Let's explore what makes this car special.

First unveiled as a prototype at the previous Auto Expo, this car has undergone significant changes. Its width has been increased, and the rear tire has been repositioned to expand cabin space. This startup claims to have engineered India's first solar-powered electric vehicle. Designed with urban commuting in mind, this car is an ideal option for your daily short trips.

Look and Design:

The Vayve EVA features a single front seat for the driver, while the rear seat is widened to comfortably accommodate an adult and a child. A folding tray on the door next to the driving seat allows for a laptop or other items. The driving seat is 6-way adjustable and the vehicle boasts a panoramic sunroof.

Car Dimensions:

The car measures 3060 mm in length, 1150 mm in width, 1590 mm in height, and has a ground clearance of 170 mm. Equipped with front disc brakes and rear drum brakes, the car features electric power steering with a turning radius of 3.9 meters. With a rear-wheel drive, the top speed of this car reaches 70 km/h.

Car Interior:

Despite its small size, the interior of this car provides ample space. It includes air conditioning (AC) combined with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity systems. The panoramic sunroof enhances the spacious feel inside the cabin, making the compact size almost unnoticeable when seated inside.

Driving Range:

This is a plug-in electric car featuring a 14Kwh (Li-ion) battery pack with a liquid-cooled electric motor generating 12kW of power and 40Nm of torque. Equipped with a single-speed automatic gearbox and regenerative braking system, the car extends battery efficiency slightly. The company claims a driving range of up to 250 kilometers on a single charge. A solar panel integrated into the sunroof enhances power generation.

Charging:

Designed especially for urban rides, the car weighs 800 kilograms and can carry up to 250 kilograms. Its battery is easily chargeable through a standard home 15A socket, taking approximately 4 hours to fully charge. Using a DC fast charger (CCS2), the battery can be fully charged in just 45 minutes.
