Katra-Srinagar Vande Bharat Train:

The journey from Katra to Srinagar is now reduced to just 3 hours via the Vande Bharat Express, significantly cutting down the previous 6-7 hours by road. Today (Friday), Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Chenab Bridge and the Anji Bridge, and flagged off the Katra-Srinagar Vande Bharat train. Specially trained commandos have been deployed to ensure the safety of passengers traveling between Jammu and Kashmir.

Given the recent terrorist attacks and security challenges in the region, this decision was taken with utmost seriousness. On June 6, 2025, after Prime Minister Modi flagged off the first Vande Bharat train between Katra and Srinagar, this rail service began. It's part of the 272-kilometer Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL).

The launch of the Vande Bharat train is a historic move connecting Jammu-Kashmir to the nation. Due to the sensitive situation in the region, especially after the attack in Pahalgam on April 22, 2025, stringent security measures have been implemented. Following the Pahalgam attack, under 'Operation Sindoor', India had targeted terrorist bases in Pakistan, further escalating regional tensions.

Commandos Deployed for Train Security

In response to these circumstances, trained commandos are enhancing passenger safety on the Vande Bharat Express traveling between Jammu and Kashmir.

Joint Security Forces Exercise

Recently, on April 16, 2025, the NSG conducted a Train Intervention Exercise with the Jammu-Kashmir Police and the Railway Protection Force (RPF) at Katra Railway Station. The exercise aimed to improve coordination and readiness among security forces to counter terrorist threats. The NSG's initiative has fortified strategies to prevent potential terrorist activities in collaboration with railways and local police.

High-Tech Facilities of the Train

Railway officials stated that the train is designed to operate smoothly even in the harsh Himalayan conditions, with temperatures dropping to -20 degrees Celsius. It features automatic doors, a heating system, and an anti-spall layer, among other high-tech amenities. For security, passenger checks and other safety protocols are also implemented.

Special Security Arrangements at Key Stations

The Railway Board has arranged special security measures at key stations such as Katra, Reasi, Sangaldan, Banihal, Qazigund, Anantnag, and Srinagar. This train will not only enhance connectivity but also boost tourism and trade, with safety being a top priority. The railway and security agencies are prepared to handle any situation.
